Musicians are grouped in ensembles based on skill level and participate in coaching sessions, rehearsals, solo opportunities, sight reading exercises and theory classes. Additionally, we offer Master Classes taught by distinguished guest artists. Pizza parties and time for games give students opportunity  to relax and enhance new friendships. Each session ends with a Gala Concert of all student ensembles.

The experience begins with students auditioning in Westport each March to be placed in ensemble groups. About 6 weeks prior to the Festival, students receive two chamber pieces which must be thoroughly learned before the first session day to enable a successful ensemble experience. Opening day of the Festival begins at 9:00 am with an orientation where students meet coaches and receive folders, schedules, and T-shirts (parents are invited to attend). On subsequent days, students arrive by 9:45 am (9:00 am supervised dropoff available) to check in, attend the morning meeting and be ready for rehearsal at 10:00 am. Students bring a lunch and beverage that do not require refrigeration Monday through Thursday, and CMC provides pizza for lunch each Friday. Dismissal is at 3:30 pm except for the last Friday of each session which concludes at 2:00 pm. On the last friday of each session an evening Gala concert is given at 6:00 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport. Students arrive by 5:00 pm for setup, tuning, and warmups.

Chamber Music Central is now offering students the opportunity to continue their chamber music experience during the school year, learn new repertoire, and become more and more unified and expressive in their music making. Students receive 10 hours of coaching per semester during flexible evening or weekend rehearsals in Westport or Fairfield. A concert, open to the public, is given at the end of each semester.
